This month is ALL about the 🍫candy, and I’m not just talking about the kids. I’ve never met a Reese’s peanut butter cup I didn’t love! 😍

Do you happen to need a “not scary” Halloween activity? I’ve gotcha covered.

These “find the ___” games are my go-to for mixed groups or reinforcing any skill.

The concept is easy as pie - or in this case…CANDY!

Be the first player to find your 5 assigned candies to WIN the game!!! Just beware of the wild cards that shake up the game!

It’s easy enough for your little ones but will also engage the heck out of you older students because…well is CANDY!! 🍭🍬The world’s favorite treat!

Ya know, games are inherently rewarding for ALL OF US so why not use that to your advantage?

For less than 4 bucks, this is a steal, and your kids will ask to play it again and again!

These Q-tip skeletons make the BEST Halloween crafts, and each one is unique!

They also make students think 🤔creatively💡and problem solve!

Here’s what you’ll need: to make these:
💀 Q-tips (of course)
💀 black construction paper
💀 a skeleton head (make a simple drawing or print one from the internet)
💀 Glue (liquid glue works best)
💀 imagination!💡

Are you Halloween-ready?

I've been cranking out new Halloween resources like a machine because It's SUCH a fun holiday, and it kind of brings out the "kid" still inside all of us! 👏👏👏

Now, I don't know HOW or WHEN CROCS came back in fashion (I guess I missed that), but I do know that even my littlest students love their Crocs!

Use this fun game to target ANY SKILL! Have students perform a task related to their goal and then let them take a turn.

To win the game, be the first person to find the 5 Croc charms needed to snazz up your Croc!

I hope you love these because I bought the charms for EVERY holiday! We're gonna run with this fad until it dies. 😂

Know what else makes it a winner? There's such minimal PREP! I feel like NO PREP should be an official love language. 😍

I used this sweet book simply called, “The Scare

I used this sweet book simply called, “The Scarecrow” (by Beth Ferry and The Fan Brothers) in therapy this week, 💛🧡 and now it will forever be a favorite.

Looking at the cover, I was like 🤔 “meh,” but the reviews for this book were supremely convincing!

IF YOU ARE AN ANIMAL LOVER JUST GO AHEAD AND GET THE BOOK, and have some tissue nearby. Thank me later. 😉

GOODNESS GRACIOUS, I’m still recovering. Did I cry?

UH, YES! (but while reading it BEFORE my sessions, thankfully).

My students loved the book even though it’s got a slow pace and is packed to the brim with emotion.

➡️ Also, our unofficial therapy cats have turned them all into animal lovers if they weren’t already! 😻

I was able to work on:
🐦‍⬛ vocabulary galore!
🐦‍⬛ feelings
🐦‍⬛ Inferencing
🐦‍⬛ character traits
🐦‍⬛ story elements & retell
🐦‍⬛ comprehension/ wh- questions
🐦‍⬛ phonological awareness (it uses just the right amount of rhyme)

Just read it, and spread the love. Who knew a scarecrow could be so endearing!?

I know because I was in one, too.

The difference today is that SLPs all over the country have leverage. This national shortage has changed everything. Employers are desperate for therapists.

If there was EVER a time to ask for what you need or want, it’s now. Feel empowered and ask for reasonable work conditions.

And yes, I know @ashaweb says they can’t enforce a caseload cap, but the truth is that - THEY CAN. They do what suits their comfort level and their agenda.

Send this to a friend or colleague to remind them SLPs that they have the upper hand right now!

Despite everything mentioned above, you show up for your students and families. You are their constant, and I hope you know how awesome that is. 🫶

I was never any good at this, but hindsight is 20/20. If I had to do it again, I'd set better limits and boundaries!

What boundaries do YOU set, if any?
Or are you really bad at it like I was?

There's a fine line between being helpful and being taken advantage of by your employer. 🙅🙅‍♂️

Y’all! I found this little acorn basket at @targ

Y’all! I found this little acorn basket at @target dollar spot, and my students have been having the BEST time opening all the acorns to work on various skills!

You can target so much with this one activity (even if you don’t have an acorn basket - any container will do)! Just have students open the acorn and see what’s inside. Then you can work on:

🌰 labeling objects
🌰 turn taking
🌰 core word use (open, close, in, out give, more, etc.)
🌰 phonological awareness (counting syllables, rhyming, sound manipulation, identifying where they hear a certain sound in its name- beginning, middle, end) etc.
🌰 grammar (make a complete sentence about what you found or make a compound sentence, etc.)
🌰 Positional concepts (play with the minis insider to demonstrate, teach, and practice spatial concepts)!
🌰 Use the minis along with the EET to target describing.
🌰 Sorting by category, color, size, etc.
🌰 teaching and assessing object function knowledge
🌰 Feelings! For each item they find, ask how they’d feel if they owned one (that’s fun because there are a great variety of minis- including a whale) 😆 Even better - have kids explain their reasoning!
🌰 Narratives - have students pick their favorite minis a a generate a narrative around them!
🌰 compare/contrast- have students pick 2 minis and compare and contrast them!
🌰 Target speech sound disorders! Have students decide if the mini they find has their sound in it or not (since kids with ssds are at risk for literacy) and then practice the ones that DO have their sound!
